Fresh from the field and the oven at the Gill Wing Farm Shop in Eridge

Tucked away down a quiet country lane, surrounded by orchards and fields on the Kent and Sussex border of Eridge, lies the unassuming Gill Wing Farm Shop and Café. Of the many farm shops in the area, it’s certainly one of the best, but thanks to its inconspicuous location it remains a bit of a hidden gem, mostly frequented by locals and those in the know.

The 100-acre farm produce their own eggs, preserves, ice cream, soups and fresh herbs as well as a choice of lamb, pork and poultry reared and butchered on site. They also support other local producers by selling seasonal fruit and vegetables, juices, dairy, crisps, oils, cheese, coffee, and most importantly, chocolate!

The range is fantastic but the thing that really sets this place apart is the on site bakery which produces freshly baked breads, pastries, cakes, tarts, sausage rolls and quiches six days a week. If you happen to time your visit when the croissants are still warm from the oven then you’re in for a treat!

I love visiting with plenty of time on my hands to have a good browse and get drawn in by the colourful baskets of fresh produce. While the kids delight in meeting the resident pigs, I’ll plan the big feast I’m going to cook over a steaming mug of coffee!
